I’m thrilled to announce that I have officially agreed to join the Miami Marlins as the Defensive Coach/Catching Coach for the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos!
MARLINS DOUBLE-A AFFILIATE PENSACOLA BLUE WAHOOS
Since I was a kid, I’ve dreamed of working for a Major League organization. This has been a lifelong goal, and I most certainly didn’t get here alone. My dad and I started The Catching Camp together, and from day one, he was my biggest mentor—teaching me not just the game, but how to be a great coach/teacher and a better person. His influence is woven into everything I do and everything this camp stands for, and I wouldn’t be here without him.
I am so grateful to the Marlins organization for giving me this opportunity, as it marks an exciting next step in my coaching journey, allowing me to contribute to the development of talented catchers within the Marlins’ system while continuing to grow in the game I’m so passionate about.
To my family, TCC staff, students, TCC parents, clients, colleagues, and mentors—thank you. Your support means the world to me, and I couldn’t have gotten here without you.
Admittedly, TCC will look a bit different during the MLB season, but the quality of each student’s experience and the staff here will not change.
Co-Director Willie Concepcion has been preparing to take on a bigger role with TCC for years now in anticipation of the growing possibility of this opportunity, and TCC catchers couldn’t be in better hands when I’m not able to be there.
For anyone wondering, no I will not be able to be at our upcoming March 1-2 Road Trip Camp in PA, and I am bummed about that. But, Willie, along with some very experienced TCC staff members, will be taking the reins for that weekend (I might be able to sneak in a FaceTime call). This isn’t the first time Willie has run a camp, and the quality of the instruction will differ in no way from past camps where I presented the information. Simply put, Willie is incredible!
Willie came to TCC over 8 years ago, and has since taken on the second largest role within the program and is just the third Director of Operations in TCC’s 24-year history. A former professional baseball player and former minor league manager within the Seattle Mariners’ organization, Willie brings an background revolving around education and mental performance (Bachelor's degree in Developmental Psychology and soon to finish his masters in Mental Health). He couldn’t be more excited to continue to push TCC forward and assist in the development of all of TCC’s athletes, and we all share in that excitement!
To be clear, I am not leaving TCC. The goal is to be in NH for at least a portion of our Summer Camps this July & August, as well as being back at our Road Trip Camps in the offseason next Fall and offer private instruction in New England throughout the Fall/winter.
This has been a dream of mine for a very long time, and I couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds!
Let’s get to work! Go Fish! 🐟
